About the German Feldpost System

The German Feldpost system was the military postal service used during wartime, designed to maintain communication between soldiers at the front and their families at home. Operated by the German armed forces, Feldpost allowed troops to send and receive letters free of charge, making it one of the most widely used morale systems of the war.

Each unit was assigned a unique Feldpost number, which replaced the soldier’s location for security reasons. This ensured operational secrecy while still allowing reliable mail delivery across all fronts—including Eastern Front campaigns, Western Europe, and beyond.
