THE BROAD STREET, BIRMINGHAM CONNECTION

Broad Street was chosen because of its close association with Duran Duran’s formative years. The band rehearsed and performed at the celebrated Rum Runner nightclub on Broad Street. The club’s owners, brothers Paul and Michael Berrow, became Duran Duran’s managers, while several members of the emerging band also worked at the venue.

The Rum Runner was demolished in 1987, but its former Broad Street location remains an important landmark in Duran Duran’s story. The specially commissioned blue cancellation gives this cover a direct philatelic connection with the Birmingham music scene from which the band emerged.
