Archaeopteris Fossil Branch & Leaves Late Devonian Catskill Formation E2

Description

Archaeopteris Fossil Plant with Branching Foliage – Late Devonian, Pennsylvania

Excellent natural Archaeopteris fossil collected from the Late Devonian Catskill Formation of Pennsylvania.

This specimen preserves a long, dark plant axis with a concentrated group of associated foliage structures. Several of the individual plant impressions retain fine surface/venation detail, which is particularly visible under magnification.

Unlike specimens consisting only of scattered plant fragments, this piece preserves the plant material in a more organized association around the central axis, giving it excellent educational and display interest.

Archaeopteris was a tree-sized progymnosperm that formed some of Earth’s earliest extensive forests during the Late Devonian, more than 350 million years ago.
