Bioactive Soil Culture for Terrariums & Vivariums
A bioactive soil culture acts as a natural clean-up crew in terrariums and vivariums. It helps manage decaying plant matter, mold, and waste, keeping enclosures fresh and healthy for planted habitats and bioactive setups.
Our Bioactive Soil Culture arrives as a nutrient-rich soil substrate, not charcoal, for safer shipping and easy seeding of your enclosure. Simply mix the inoculated soil into your terrarium/vivarium substrate, keep it moist, and allow your bioactive setup to establish.
🦎 Why Choose MVB Exotics Bioactive Starter Substrate?
- ✅ Quality-Focused Process – We regularly refresh and maintain our starter substrates to support strong, healthy bioactive setups.
- ✅ Safe Soil Shipping – Soil substrate helps reduce crushing and temperature swings compared to charcoal-based options.
- ✅ Ready to Seed – Just mix into your substrate and mist regularly.
- ✅ Great for Bioactive Setups – Useful for planted terrariums, vivariums, and moisture-friendly bioactive enclosures.
🍄 Feeding Your Bioactive Setup
Our Bioactive Food Blend optional add-on:
- Special vitamin-fortified dry yeast blend.
- Works well for moisture-friendly bioactive setups.
- A small pinch every few days helps support new or low-waste enclosures.
- Great for fresh builds, planted setups, and enclosure maintenance.
📦 Suggested Ordering Guide
For best results, start with at least 4oz of starter substrate per gallon of enclosure substrate:
- <1 Gallon Substrate: 2oz – 5oz+

- 5–9 Gallons: 8oz – 16oz+
- 10–14 Gallons: 16oz+
