Antique c1904 "Birthday Blessings" Havergal Birthday Book - Inscribed 1913 (Dixfield, Maine) with Two Original Childhood Tintypes possibly of the owner of the book, Marion Blanche Harlow.
For sale is a truly unique, one-of-a-kind genealogical time capsule from Oxford County, Maine. This is a 1904 edition of "Birthday Blessings: A Havergal Birthday Book" (published by DeWolfe & Fiske Co.), which was gifted to Marion Blanche Harlow on Dixfield, Maine on her 13th birthday in 1913 by Uncle Jerry.
This book features an incredibly rich provenance, completely filled with signatures from prominent local New England families of the era, and uniquely contains two original, loose antique tintype photographs tucked inside the pages.
Research (with the assistance of AI) indicates that this gift was from her maternal uncle, Jermiah "Jerry" Doe, to Marion Blanche Harlow (born Christmas Day, December 25, 1900).
The two tintypes seem to be of the same girl (in my opinion) at two different toddler stages of her life. Since these were tucked inside this birthday book belonging to Marion Harlow, these may very well be early photos of the owner of the book, Marion.
The calendar pages have numerous names in various historical handwritings, representing Marion's direct family, neighbors, friends and school network. Prominent surnames written inside the book include: Harlow - included was John S. Harlow a prominent local lawyer, Agnes (mother), John S. Harlow, Jr., Brother; Kermit Harlow, Brother (passed away tragically in 1917), Frank S., Roselle, Louise, and Hamilton.
Also included are the names Edith Grace Harlow Brooks and local Maine surnames including Brooks, Kimball, Copland, Atwood and Day and more.
Approx. 5 1/2" x 4 1/2"
