Fostoria Glass Advertisements and Marketing-2, 1946-1959. Mid-Century
Fostoria was among the first of the American glass companies to initiate an advertising campaign focused directly on the consumer. This volume includes 167 advertisements. Many of the ads are in color. 42 patterns are identified by name, as well as 13 etches, 25 cuttings, and 10 other decorations, with another 26 individual items or sets shown, including information on Fostoria's brief foray into Melamine. Popular patterns include American (again), Century, Colony, Frisco, Jenny Lind, Radiance, Randolph, and Winburn. Popular etchings include Chintz, Heather, Navarre, and Romance, as well as the Holly, Nosegay, Pine, Rose, Spray, and Wheat cuttings, and the Wedding Ring decoration. A careful review of these advertisements will provide the reader with a great amount of additional information on the patterns and products manufactured by Fostoria in this initial era of advertising. Photos contain samples of unknown decorations, rarely seen patterns and the texts in the advertisements are not only beautifully written, but provide added information about the company.
