Franklin D Roosevelt FDR Roger Smith OWI 10x12.25 Photo 15x20 Mount WWII

A striking large-format original wartime photograph of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, credited in the lower right to Roger Smith, O.W.I.

The photograph itself measures approximately 10" × 12.25" and is mounted to an impressive 15" × 20" period board, giving the piece considerably more display presence than a conventional 8" × 10" press photograph.

Roger Smith worked as a photographer for the U.S. Office of War Information during World War II, documenting government, political, and African American life in wartime America. His surviving photographs are represented in institutional collections including the Library of Congress and National Archives.

This unusual candid scene captures FDR seated and laughing during an official or ceremonial gathering, while two men shake hands directly in front of him. Eleanor Roosevelt appears standing behind the President, framed by multiple American flags and floral arrangements.

• Photographer: Roger Smith, Office of War Information
• Subject: President Franklin D. Roosevelt
• Era: Circa WWII / early 1940s
• Photo size: Approximately 10" × 12.25"
• Mount size: Approximately 15" × 20"
• Mount: Period Royal Crest photographic/illustrating board
• Attribution: “Roger Smith O.W.I.” written at lower right of the image
• Research: The precise event and identities of the two men have not yet been conclusively established. A previously considered May 26, 1943 White House reception for Liberian President Edwin Barclay was ruled out through comparison with surviving Library of Congress photographs.

The combination of the large presentation format, Roger Smith attribution, wartime OWI connection, Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, and unusual candid composition makes this a particularly interesting piece of Roosevelt-era photographic history.

The mount shows visible toning, spotting/foxing and other age-related wear. No third-party authentication is included.
