JAMES FENIMORE COOPER - AUTOGRAPHED SIGNED CHECK 08/06/1849 - HFSID 35804
JAMES FENIMORE COOPER
Check signed by James Fenimore Cooper to Self for $30.00.
Check filled out and signed: "J. Feminore Cooper", 6x2¾. Cooperstown, New York, 1849 August 6. Check number 618, drawn on the Otsego County Bank, payable to "Self" for $30.00. Not endorsed. Prolific American writer James Cooper (1789-1851) began writing in 1820 to support himself after he had gone through a $50,000 inheritance. The Spy, published in 1821, was followed by a series of five novels known collectively as The Leather-Stocking Tales: The Pioneers (1823), The Last of the Mohicans (1826), The Prairie (1827), The Pathfinder (1840) and The Deerslayer (1841). The author, whose fiction brought him wealth and world fame, added "Fenimore" to his name in 1826 to keep his mother's name alive. "Paid" bank stamp on front at the "J." and the "Feni" of signature. Irregular edges. Overall, fine condition.
