RARE c. 1930 Funeral Memorial Book – Dean Mortuary, Benton Harbor MI
Very unusual antique funeral memorial keepsake, dating to approximately 1930 and published by Dean Mortuary of Benton Harbor, Michigan.
Designed as a beautiful faux book with an embossed cover and gold-tone interior, it contains the original “Voices of the Valley – Our Complete Service” funeral booklet with decorative tassel (stunning Arts & Crafts style printed picture on the cover).
The hollow interior was designed to preserve personal memorial items such as photographs, funeral programs, pressed flowers, locks of hair, and other keepsakes.
Condition: This item is new old stock, but shows signs of age-related patina. Some of the corners of the faux leather veneer are scuffed and the cover looks as though a portion has sun discoloration (minimal). Please see pictures.
Approximate measurements: 10" x 7" x 2"
A rare and fascinating piece of early American funeral and mourning history. Items like this are seldom seen today and would make a wonderful addition to a collection of antique ephemera, funeral memorabilia, or Americana.
