Rare Strombeck-Becker SPAD XIII Eddie Rickenbacker Wood Biplane Toy 1920s

Vintage Strombeck-Becker wooden SPAD XIII biplane toy/model, believed to date to the early production era of Strombeck-Becker Manufacturing Co. of Moline, Illinois.

This early wooden airplane features a solid wood fuselage and wings, wooden propeller, painted red star roundels, and metal tail/control components. The underside of the upper wing retains the original factory marking reading “Patent Applied For” and “Strombeck-Becker Mfg. Co., Moline, Ill.”

The model is believed to represent a WWI-era SPAD XIII, the aircraft famously associated with American ace Eddie Rickenbacker.

Approximately 7” wingspan and 8” overall length.

This is an unrestored, well-used survivor showing considerable age and character. There is surface wear, scratches, paint and finish loss, oxidation, edge wear, and wear/damage to portions of the tail assembly. Please examine all photos carefully for exact condition. Original wooden propeller is present.

An old paper ownership/address label was previously attached to the wing and remnants/residue remain. The piece has not been cleaned, refinished, repainted, or restored.

A wonderful early Strombeck-Becker piece for a collection of antique wooden toys, early aviation memorabilia, WWI aircraft, model airplanes, or American toy manufacturing.
