- Schilke 66 Standard Series Tuba Mouthpiece - Silver Plated | Piano Gallery, Idaho Falls
The Schilke 66 Standard Series Tuba Mouthpiece delivers exceptional rich tone quality with substantial volume through its innovative design based on the original Helleberg model with enhanced specifications. This professional-grade mouthpiece features a smaller inside cup diameter at 31.52mm while maintaining the wealth of volume that serious tuba players demand, making it an ideal choice for BBb, CC, Eb, and F tubas (including sousaphones) requiring standard large shank mouthpieces for demanding orchestral, wind ensemble, and solo performance applications.
Product Overview
The 66 mouthpiece represents Schilke's commitment to innovative tuba mouthpiece design, incorporating proven specifications from the legendary Helleberg model while offering refined characteristics through a smaller inside cup diameter configuration. The 31.52mm (1.241") diameter provides optimal balance between control and projection, while the 21/64" (0.3281") throat ensures excellent airflow and volume production for serious tuba players. This design continues the legacy established by former Chicago Symphony principal trumpet player Renold O. Schilke, whose innovative vision has influenced generations of professional brass performers, including the specialized demands of professional tuba performance.
The smaller inside cup diameter creates acoustic properties that enhance control and precision while maintaining the rich tone quality and substantial volume that define professional tuba performance. The standard large shank configuration ensures optimal fit and acoustic coupling with BBb, CC, Eb, and F tubas, making this mouthpiece particularly effective for musicians who require excellent projection with enhanced control characteristics. The Helleberg heritage provides time-tested design principles that have proven successful in professional performance contexts worldwide.
