T-Jet Armature Oil for Aurora Thunderjet 500 chassis and other similar cars such as AFX, Auto World, Tyco, Magnatronics, Dash Motorsports, TFX, Fray and the like....basically all pancake style motored HO Slot Cars.
The lower armature lubrication point on a T-Jet chassis is particularly challenging and was a known issue when Aurora designed the T-Jet chassis in the early 1960s. Given the high RPMs of the armature, lubrication of the lower arm shaft was critical to overall performance. Equally important was the need to isolate the lubrication liquids from the electrical flow of the brushes to the commutator…the two items are only .035” apart!
Never use standard oil in this application...while oil is excellent for the axles and pinion gear, using oil on the armature shaft always results in migration of the oil over to the electrical brushes, in turn contaminating them and resuling in higher electrical resistance and heat build up at the commutator plate area. This in turn can result in melt-down of the lower chassis plate.
Aurora’s answer to the issue was red Special Racing Oil #14-25. Our T-Jet Armature Oil takes this a step further by using an industrial lubricant designed for very high RPM miniature motor applications of up to 40,000 rpm. Containing suspended Teflon microbeads, our T-Jet Armature Lube provides superior lubrication at extremely high speeds while staying only where applied and not migrating to surrounding surfaces.
It is important to remember to only apply a tiny drop to where the lower armature shaft exits the chassis. We do this by first cleaning the armature shaft and chassis hole…then while holding the chassis upside down use the specially shaped applicator brush in the bottle lid to apply a small drop to the bottom of the shaft. Finally turn the rear wheels for 10-20 revolutions to allow the T-Jet Armature Lube to flow into the tiny gap between the shaft and the lower armature hole.
