About this product
This is a small ryijy (rya rug) that was made in Finland. It has been hand-built onto a piece of wool and cotton fabric. Each piece of wool yarn has been woven into the backing fabric, knotted and cut. A bit like one would make an oriental rug. It takes a long time to build a large ryijy, but this one is a lot smaller than most, so maybe it has taken a few weeks or a month.
This ryijy is 15 inches tall and 13.5 inches wide. The cotton fringe adds another 5.5 inches. The top is hemmed so you can slide in a rod for hanging the ryijy on the wall. The ryijy looks very fluffy and new, so I would say it has been made within the last 20 years, and has probably been stashed away in a cabinet somewhere.
Condition: in good condition. Slight unevenness in the finish which is probably a sign of an amateur or first time weaver. Looks clean. One piece of fringe is missing.
