Sony GV-S50 Video Walkman NTSC Video8 Player Recorder + TGV-3 TV Tuner Tested

Portable Sony Video8 deck with a built-in 4-inch color LCD and the matching side-mount TV tuner pack. Tested: a tape was loaded and played back with picture and sound on the LCD. (See Video)

Tested

• Powers on
• Accepts and plays an 8mm tape
• Picture and sound on the built-in screen
• TGV-3 tuner pack included and attaches to the side

What it does

• Records and plays standard Video8 (8mm)
• Plays Hi8 tapes at regular Video8 quality only (quasi-Hi8). It is not a Hi8 recorder - See video
• Does not play Digital8
• SP and LP
• AFM Hi-Fi stereo, built-in speaker, headphone jack
• RCA composite video and stereo audio in/out, for viewing on a TV or transferring tapes to a capture device
• LANC (Control-L) editing jack
• Still and slow motion on the LCD

Tuner pack (TGV-3) Clips on the side. Telescopic antenna, VHF/UHF and unscrambled cable coverage, channel presets, and a programmable timer. US analog broadcast TV is no longer on the air, so do not expect live over-the-air channels. The pack is included as original equipment. The useful connection today is the RCA jacks.
