If you have been looking for a reasonably priced bass preamp that delivers pro-level tone, the TONE MONSTER SBK Series is ready to drop into your new build or existing instrument. Manufactured in South Korea, the compact SMT (Surface Mount Technology) design saves cavity space while giving your passive pickups clarity, punch, and a wide tonal range.
Prewired and ready to install, the SBK Series uses top-quality components and meticulous soldering for transparent, noise-free performance. With 8+configurations (3–5 potentiometers) and a powerful +/-12 dB EQ range across 2-band (treble/bass) or 3-band (treble/middle/bass) setups, these preamps will make your passive pickups sing. Installation is straightforward: just connect your pickups and the supplied bridge ground. For single-pickup or pickup-selector applications, you can remove the balance pot and wire directly to the preamp.
The ultra-compact circuit board (25D x 30W mm) takes up very little space, though a minimum cavity depth of 1 ¼" (32 mm) is required. SBK-A and SBK-D models use concentric (stacked) potentiometers to combine functions and reduce the number of controls. Powered by a 9V alkaline battery (not included), the circuit can handle up to 18V (two 9V in series) for increased headroom.
DIY players can further enhance the system with optional upgrades: BAT-1 (18V), BAT-2 (9V/18V switchable), PAT-1 passive/active bypass toggle with volume in passive mode, and PAT-2 for two fixed passive tone positions. These optional kits are DIY and require good soldering skills and the ability to follow wiring diagrams. Designed specifically for passive pickups, the TONE MONSTER SBK Series brings out their natural tone instead of covering it up.
