Antique Torah Scroll Fragment ~300 years Turkey | Genesis: Jacob, Rachel and Leah
Item Description:
Overview
Offered for sale is a magnificent and ancient handwritten Torah scroll fragment, originally written in Hebrew. Originating from Turkey and likely brought to Israel by Jewish immigrants from the Urfa region, this remarkable manuscript is estimated to be approximately 300 years old.
Biblical Content: Genesis 28:16 – 29:32
This extraordinary fragment captures the beginning of Jacob’s journey and the foundational marriages that established the House of Israel:
Jacob’s Vow at Bethel: The text begins with Jacob awakening from his prophetic "Ladder Dream," declaring the site the Gate of Heaven, and setting up a monument to God.
The Meeting at the Well: A vivid description of Jacob’s arrival in Haran and his romantic meeting with Rachel at the well, where he demonstrates his strength by rolling the massive stone alone to water her flock.
The Story of Rachel and Leah: The central narrative of this scroll details the famous account of Jacob’s labor for his uncle Laban. It describes his deep love for Rachel, the deception involving her sister Leah, and his eventual marriage to both sisters—the foundational Mothers of the Jewish people.
Birth of Reuben: The fragment concludes with the birth of Jacob’s firstborn son, Reuben.
