1. Cleatus A. Lebow, FC 3/c (Fire Controlman Third Class)
- History: Hailing from Texas, Cleatus Lebow served as a rangefinder operator on the ship's gun turrets. He survived five grueling days in the open ocean before being rescued and passed away in late 2022 as one of the very last remaining survivors of the tragedy.
2. Paul J. Murphy, FC 3/c (Fire Controlman Third Class)
- History: Paul Murphy was only 19 years old when the ship was torpedoed. After surviving the ordeal, he dedicated much of his postwar life to honoring his fallen crewmates, eventually serving as the chairman of the official USS Indianapolis Survivors Organization.

- History: John M. Arnett survived the sinking and the subsequent four-and-a-half days in shark-infested waters alongside his division mates before the chance rescue by a patrol plane.
4. • Glenn B. Morgan, Bmkr 3/c (Boilermaker Third Class)
- History: Glenn Morgan was working deep down in the ship's boiler rooms when the torpedoes struck. He managed to escape topside, abandon ship, and survive nearly five days in the water. He was a dedicated member of the survivors' community, frequently speaking about his experiences to ensure the legacy of his crewmates was never forgotten.
The sinking of the USS Indianapolis (CA-35) on July 30, 1945, remains the single greatest disaster at sea in the history of the United States Navy. Out of a crew of 1,195 men, only 316 survived a brutal five-day ordeal in the open ocean.
