Vintage 1940s Tibetan Ghau Amulet Box Pendant, Vajrayana Buddhism Prayer Pendant

This is a vintage Himalayan Gau amulet box that my father brought home in WWII. In Northern India, Himalayan traders and Tibetan refugees interacted with Allied aircrews, and protective Gau boxes were prized souvenirs. The stylized Tibetan calligraphic monogram on the lid is known as Namchu Wangden, "The All-Powerful Ten" symbols representing the Kalachakra Tantra of "Wheel of Time." The surrounding wreath motifs are stylized grain stalks representing abundance. In Himalayan culture, this symbol offers powerful spiritual protection to travelers, and Gau boxes were most often used to carry sacred scrolls or miniature clay votive images of a deity. The top, with a dark patina appropriate for its age, appears to be a hand-hammered silver-copper alloy, while the main body is copper. Please see photos for exact condition. Item will be shipped insured and signature required for delivery. Shipping to Continental U.S. only, no Hawaii or Alaska.
