About this product
A TWO-FOOT, TWO-FOLD FOLDING RULE by Anthony Gifford of Westport, Massachusetts. This arch joint, unbound rule is fitted with a Gunter slide for performing complex mathematical computations. This early rule is in excellent collector quality condition, noting a minor split from bending at the 2" mark, and it is clearly marked with the imprint of Gifford. Anthony Gifford's diverse career included seventeen years at sea, including two as Captain of a whaling ship. He eventually established a rule making factory in Westport in 1850, where this rule would have been produced. An uncommon rule produced by an interesting man. Length = 24.00 Inches (Ref. Id No.: 466682) [Free Shipping]
