Matt Mason HAL 9000 Mainframe Computer Wall – Space Station Diorama

Bring the computer core of HAL 9000 into your Matt Mason space station with this detailed HAL 9000 Mainframe Computer Wall.

Unlike the Talking HAL 9000 Wall/Tower, which represents HAL’s interactive crew interface and features the famous illuminated eye and spoken dialogue, this wall represents the computer hardware, memory, data storage, and processing systems operating behind HAL.

Inspired by the large computer installations of the late 1960s and the technology seen in 2001: A Space Odyssey, the wall includes banks of controls and status indicators, equipment access panels, ventilation sections, and two large reel-to-reel data units.

In the station, you can imagine this mainframe handling:

• HAL 9000's central data processing
• Navigation and mission calculations
• Life-support monitoring
• Sensor and telemetry data
• Communications processing
• Crew and mission records
• System diagnostics and equipment control
• Data storage and retrieval

The HAL 9000 identification panel connects the mainframe directly to HAL while keeping the overall design appropriate for a vintage space-station computer room.

HAL's Brain vs. HAL's Voice

Think of the two HAL pieces this way:

HAL 9000 Mainframe Computer Wall — HAL's brain and computer hardware.

Talking HAL 9000 Wall/Tower — HAL's eyes, voice, and crew interface, with illuminated eye and multiple spoken HAL dialogues.

They can be displayed separately or used together for a much more complete HAL 9000 installation.

The Mainframe Wall can also be combined with the Sensor Wall, Communications Wall, and Talking HAL 9000 Wall/Tower to build the larger:

COMMUNICATIONS, SENSORS & HAL 9000 CONTROL CENTER

A great centerpiece for a retro-futuristic Matt Mason space station or 2001: A Space Odyssey-inspired diorama.
